About Beachcomber: Beachcomber opened it's doors to the elderly of Seaham in 1985. Since that time it has enjoyed excellent occupancy and community support. The home has committed staff who maintain high standards of care & give freely of their time to promote links within the community. Private and state assisted stays are welcome. There are no hidden charges and financially assisted residents will get their full personal allowance.                         Respite and day care is offered when accommodation is available. Private fees can be negotiated. Registered and inspected by the Quality Care Commission ensures maintenance of high standards. A Quality Assurance Internal Audit system is maintained. Recent inspection reports are available on request. Facilities: Beachcomber is an adapted and extended family home which enjoys panoramic sea views and has the advantage of 2 quiet garden areas. A variety of accommodation is provided for 52 residents. Beachcomber companion rooms, all with central heating and hand-wash basins, and are within easy reach of bathroom and w.c.´s. Traditionally furnished to provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere and conform to all Fire and Safety Regulations. The recent decorative update was the choice of our residents. Smoking for residents and visitors is restricted to a designated area. Bathrooms and w.c.´s. are fully adapted for disabled use and access to the first floor is by hydraulic lift. Meals: Meals are provided in the dining room at 8.00am. 12.30 and 6pm. Our cooks provide home cooking and try to cater to all tastes. They are trained to provide nourishing balanced meals with attention to special diets. All have Food Handling Certificates as required by the Department of the Environment. Refreshments for residents and visitors are available in the dining room throughout the day and night. We encourage our residents to continue their normal routine day as at home. Those who need assistance with feeding are attended to discreetly. Care: Trained staff provide 24 hour care. Residents are encouraged to meet their own levels of independence. Intervention is only at their request, or when their personal safety is at risk. The professionalism of our trained staff is paramount. They achieve high standards of care by using a relaxed approach to individual problems, encouraging families to take an active part in that care. A nurse is on duty 24 hours a day. Day to day caring and support by our Social Care Workers and Ancillary staff is carefully supervised to a high standard. Beachcomber directors are dedicated to the training of all staff to ensure these high standards are continued by taking full advantage of NVQ opportunities available. The coverted "Investors in People" award is held by our company. Medical supervision is continued as at home by the resident's own GP. ~ visits by request. Beachcomber have taken further steps to monitor standards by joining the Registered Nursing Homes Assocciation. Residents and their families have access to these governing bodies and the Ombudsman should they require further information, or have any cause for complaint.
